How to check if a sale price in the UAE is real

How to check a UAE sale price against the prices recorded for the same product and against the same product on other UAE stores.

September 24, 20263 min read

To check a sale price, compare it with the prices recorded for the same product. Then compare it with the same product on other UAE stores. Make sure that you compare the same model, size and seller, and add delivery charges. If the price is still not low enough, track the product and set a target price.

Step 1: Look at the recorded prices

Open the product on DeserTracker. For a product on Noon, Virgin Megastore, IKEA, Emax, Mumzworld, Lulu Hypermarket or Homes R Us, look at the lowest and highest recorded price and the price history chart. Amazon.ae pages show the current price only.

A sale price close to the lowest recorded price is low for that product. A sale price close to the highest recorded price is not, whatever the label says.

Step 2: Compare the same product on other UAE stores

Product comparison pages show current prices for the same product across UAE stores. Browse them on the products page. A lower price on another store tells you more than a discount label.

Step 3: Check that it is the same product

Two listings can look the same and still be different products. Check these points before you compare prices:

  • Model number
  • Storage or size
  • Colour
  • Seller
  • Warranty
  • Bundle (what is in the box)

Step 4: Add delivery charges

A low price with a delivery charge can cost more than a higher price with free delivery. Add the delivery charge to each price before you compare.

Step 5: Use the extension on a computer

The free DeserTracker extension works on Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox on a computer. On a supported store product page, it shows the lowest and highest price we have recorded. On the chart stores, it also shows a price history chart. It does not work on phones. On a phone, compare prices on desertracker.com.

Step 6: Track the product and set a target price

If the price is not low enough, track the product and set a target price. You get an email alert when the price reaches your target. Our guide How to set a price drop alert in the UAE shows each step.

What a "was" price tells you

A "was" price is the price the store shows next to the current price. Compare it with the prices we have recorded.
