How to use this when you shop
These shares describe changes in period averages, not the price you will necessarily see today. Check a product’s current observed price before deciding whether to buy.
Method
We compare two periods of four weeks each, from 29 April 2026 to 23 June 2026. For each product we take its average price in each period, weighted by the time at each price. Prices are recorded when they change, not on a schedule. Only covered, in-stock time counts. Days our collection did not cover are left out of both averages. The cohort is the products with a covered price in the earlier period and a price at the start of the later period. Up and down use the same minimum change as a price cut on the method page, measured from the higher of the two averages. The median change is measured from the earlier average. Each product counts once; no single store supplies more than half of the weight. Coverage is determined as follows: Before the daily check counter started, collection is inferred from the daily count of recorded price and stock changes per retailer. A quiet day and a stopped collector look the same, so days with less than half of the usual count are excluded. From the counter start, a day counts only when enough price checks succeeded that day. Facts computed on 25 September 2026.

Other limits:
What we could not measure
---
Products we no longer check are not in this study, so products that left a store are missing.
For part of our collection, a change in stock with no change in price leaves no record, so some out-of-stock time counts as time at the last price.
We do not know why a price changed. A promotion, a seller change, and a correction look the same in our records.
Delivery fees, coupons, and membership prices are not in the recorded price.
An average over four weeks hides the changes inside those weeks.
We compare two periods; we do not know why prices moved in either of them.
Products first seen in the later period are not in the cohort.
Coverage is measured per store and day, not per product.
Some stores were left out because collection was incomplete or they had too few products.
